📜 History
- This day was first proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) in 1992.
- The UN General Assembly decided that December 3 would be a global day to:
- highlight disability issues
- support inclusive development
- encourage equal opportunities for all
- Over time, the term “handicapped” has been replaced with “persons with disabilities”, which is more respectful and rights-based.
🎯 Objectives
- Create awareness about physical, mental, intellectual, and sensory disabilities.
- Encourage governments to improve accessibility (education, healthcare, jobs, transport).
- Promote inclusion and break stereotypes or discrimination.
- Highlight success stories of people with disabilities.
